tips/suggestions on travel to new york city?

I am traveling to New York City in the beginning of October – I have never been before so I’d like some tips or suggestions.. I have no idea what to expect or even where to stay. I will be flying into JFK airport and am still looking for a hotel.. I will most likely be staying in marriott hotel so if u know of a great area to stay with a marriott location that would be most helpful. Also, I am interested in maybe seeing a show – any suggestions of where and what the cost may be? I am only planning on being in new york for 3 days so yes, a very short trip..

also, how does transportation work? I’ve heard it is not wise to rent a car so ill probably be taking public transportation or walking… any advice on this would also be appreciated… I am on a budget so any affordable/cheap activities etc is great!

Thanks!

Transportation to Hoboken?

I will be landing in JFK this morning and have not figured out how my family and I will go to our hotel in Hoboken. The taxi is no doubt more convinient so that´s why I think I will choose this way to go… But i have a question..

at the airport, can I ask the driver or someone responsible for it how much will my ride cost with all tools included or do I have to go and just at the end of the trip see the price ?
Do you know how much will it probably cost ?

and the last question; If we dicide to take public transportation, is it safe to ride until hoboken at 04:00PM ?!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH AND HAPPY NEW YEAR !

New York City?

I’m planing a trip in which I will have to swing by Baltimore before getting to NY. How do I get from JFK Airport to Canal Street taking public transportation? Thanks

i have a "fake"disaster scenario about an outbreak of Ebola on an island. any ideas on how to prevent it?

A 23 Year old Peace Corp intern was working in the Congo for the last 8 weeks.
•Returns to the USA via JFK Airport, feels tired and fatigued but thinks it is probably jet lag; he also has a slight cough.
•Takes public transportation from the airport to his apartment in Manhattan.
•Unpacks, feels feverish, and the malaise increases.
•Goes out to dinner with a few friends to welcome him back.
•His parents live in Staten Island.
•Takes the subway, ferry and bus to visit his parents.
•Begins feeling worse, eyes are blood shot, begins coughing up blood, and has some bloody diarrhea.
•Parents take him to the Hospital, where he sits in the Emergency waiting room with the other patients for 45 minutes.
•The admitting resident does not suspect anything too serious.
•Eventually he has bloods drawn for testing and a full history is taken.
•The attending calls for an Infectious Disease consult but suspects the worse.
•The patient has Ebola virus.

IF you were in charge of public health policy— what would you do? Who do you notify? What steps are necessary to save the most people? List your groups plans for preventing a pandemic of Ebola in on an island.

Subway from JFK Int'l to Rockefeller Center?

Should I take the A train from JFK, transfer to the BDFV at Washington Square, and then get off at the Rockefeller Center stop?

Or, the AirTrain to Jamaica – Sutphin, get on the E train and get off at 5th Ave?

I typically take a cab, but wanted to experience travel on public transportation there. I’m from Chicago, so I always take the Blue line to O’hare. I hear that Chicago’s is better to/from the airport, but NY’s is better once you get to Manhatten.

Thanks!

Confused about NJ/MTA public transit– will this route work?

I am trying to get from Newark Liberty Airport to JFK airport via public transportation, and everything I look at has this long, crazy trip where I transfer trains 5 times and end up spending . Then, I typed it into the New Jersey transit authority website, and here’s what I got:

Itinerary from NEWARK AIRPORT N TERMINAL to JOHN F. KENNEDY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Itinerary
Depart : NEWARK AIRPORT NORTH TERMINAL (07102)(On 107 NewYork – exact fare) 9:23 A.M.
Arrive : PORT AUTHORITY BUS TERM [41ST & 8TH ENT] 9:43 A.M.

Transfer

Depart : 42 ST-PORT AUTH BUS TERM(On NYC subway A (www.mta.nyc.ny.us/nyct))) 9:53 A.M.
Arrive : HOWARD BEACH-JFK AIRPORT 10:46 A.M.

This seems way too good to be true? Will this work?

and secondary question– if it will work, it looks like I have 3 or 4 hours to kill… is there anything along this route I could hop off and do/see?

Week-long Trip To UK — How much is the expenses going to cost?

I’m looking for a round trip flight from JFK (NYC) airport to London for two people sometime around mid-April this year. I want to stay in a normal hotel — nothing fancy or high class. I’ll be using public transportation throughout the week and probably buying food a local grocery and perhaps a restaurant or two. What do you think a trip for two people in total would cost?

Avid public transportation users in new york, need assistance..?

hello!

I will be flying to New York in 2 weeks and here is my schedule:

Leave San Diego at 10:30, Arrive in New York JFK AIRPORT about 6:45 am.
I do NOT want to pay for a taxi (the hotel is already killing me! lol) And I hear that it is easy to use the public transportation out there.

Can you tell me what subway trains, airtrains, or busses I need to take in order to get to LONG ISLAND CITY from JFK? (Holiday Inn Long Island City Manhattan View to be exact) I can take a taxi from the last bus/subway drop off, I just need to get as close as possible.

Thanks a million!

Global Warming Conference in New York – Why were attendee's not taking public transportation?

Late last week, when speaking at a global warming conference, Al Gore said global warming was worse than any war, 9/11…etc. Fortunately, Americans for Prosperity was there capturing the people coming into the forum in there carbon-spewing cars (no public transportation, SegWay, walking, horseback riding, teleporting, 1.21 Gigawatt Delorian..etc).

Watch the entire clip, because at 3:27 they ask Al Gore’s limo driver why he was idling for 20 minutes with the air conditioning on. He closed the window. Tipper Gore and her daughter were then seen getting into the "cool" vehicle. I guess they didn’t want to sweat.

Is Al Gore a hypocrite?
