How will I get from JFK airport to WIlliamsburg, Brooklyn??
I am going to stay at a friend’s in Williamsburg and get into JFK at around 10.30pm. What do you think is the best way to get there from the airport? Does the subway go out there or do I have to get a train? Is it safe? Will it take ages? I would rather get a cab but don’t want to get ripped off. Minicabs in London don’t know where they are going- what about NYC? Help!

well it depends where you are but the A train to FAR ROCKAWAY or ROCKAWAY PARK ONLY will take you to and from the airport!
make sure when your coming to airport the sign says that and when youre going to brooklyn it says A to Manhattan. people always get on on the wrong side!
then just get on the train and look at the map to see what you have to do next.
i live out there (by airport)i know

When you land at JFK, take the Airtrain to Jamaica Station. Once you get to Jamaica transfer to a Manhattan bound J/Z train. The J/Z train runs through southern Williamsburg.

air train to the subway that goes to brooklyn.
Options:
1)
AirTrain from airport terminal to Howard Beach subway station ($5)
Then A subway (in the "Manhattan" bound direction, not difficult) ($2)
Then ride the A for about 50 minutes
Then transfer at 14th Street station to the L subway (free)
Then ride the L out to Williamsburg…about 20 minutes
Obviously don’t know where you are going within Williamsburg, how long/safe a walk that would be from the L, etc.
2) Taxi from airport taxistand to your friend’s door
Price depends on traffic and exact location, but probably about $40-50 including tip (the flat fee is only from JFK to Manhattan, not Brooklyn)
Time depends on traffic and exact location, but probably 30-45 minutes
Get in line and wait for a taxi through the official process — do NOT respond to the guys who walk up to you in or near the airport saying "taxi?"
You should know the cross streets for where you are going and be able to reach your friend by phone just in case, but most taxi drivers in NY know their way around well and will only get confused within neighborhoods at the very end.
Your call, but given the late hour and your unfamiliarity with the City it might make sense to take a cab this first time.
